TNT opens revamped logistics centre in City
TNT, a leading freight and logistics company, officially opened its expanded and re-modeled international and domestic operations centre in HCM City yesterday.
Located next to Tan Son Nhat Airport, the 3,000sq.m facility features state-of-the-art technology for freight processing, tracking and security.
By modernising and expanding the country’s express and freight infrastructure, TNT said it aims to make important contributions to achieveing national trade and development goals.
World base
"Viet Nam is fast becoming the world’s manufacturing base for the high-tech equipment and garment industry.
TNT’s new operations centre possesses advanced security and freight processing technology and is designed to support and further develop Viet Nam’s potential by speeding up turnaround times, safety and reliability of goods," said Mark van Den Assem, managing director of TNT Viet Nam.
"The facility is part of TNT’s integrated air and road network between Europe, China and South East Asia, thus connecting Viet Nam’s business to the rest of the world," he added.
The new centre can manage greater domestic and international, road and air freight flows. It is designed to enable the company to pick up and quickly process more freight from customers in Viet Nam as the economy grows.
A company release said it is able to achieve faster clearance as its facility is the only commercial express and freight hub in Viet Nam with in-house customs and solid security system.
The facility possesses the latest X-ray scanning machines, radio-frequency (RF) shipment tracking systems, automated weight and volume scanners, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, and alarm systems.
The HCM City centre, which employs 180 staff to manage the operation of the facility 24 hours a day and seven days a week, adds to TNT’s existing capability in Viet Nam – most recently, the launch of Viet Nam domestic freight services and the TNT operations centre in Ha Noi.
Assem declined to say how much the HCM City centre had cost to set up, but revealed that TNT’s total investments in facilities in Southeast Asia amounts to 100 million euros (US$142.5 million).
The link from Viet Nam to TNT’s recently opened regional hub represents a strategic advantage, greatly streamlining Viet Nam’s access to Chinese and European markets.
