Appropriated rice fields to get more compensation

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said Friday that it expected to submit a draft decree on rice farming land management to the government in the third quarter of this year.

The document is close to completion, said Nguyen Tri Ngoc, director of the ministry’s Cultivation Department.

According to the draft decree, the chairpersons of provincial People’s Committees will only be able to allow the use of less than five hectares of rice fields for a project. Projects requiring five hectares or more must be approved by the prime minister.

If land that is suitable for rice cultivation and has good infrastructure is used for other projects, the compensation will be two times that of residential land, according to the draft decree.

Land that is suitable for rice cultivation but has poor infrastructure or that which is less suitable for growing the staple crop will attract compensation that is 3-4 times that given for land that is used for other agricultural crops.
