Prices of essential goods in Hanoi increase slightly

The prices of most essential goods like fresh food, vegetables and fruit in Hanoi are likely to increase slightly.

According to Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade, supermarkets have received word from their producers and suppliers that prices will go up in the future.

Both sugar and cooking oil have seen increases. In Hanoi’s markets, pork has increased by VND1,000-3,000 per kilogram and chicken by around VND1,500-3,000 per kilogram.

This has been put down to the rising costs of input materials such as cattle feed.

Vegetables have also increased by VND500-1,000 per kilogram and fruit by VND1,000-5,000 per kilogram compared to last month.

In the meantime, the domestic price of rice has fallen because Thailand and India plan to increase the amount rice for export and the winter-spring season in the Mekong Delta is over. Vietnamese rice is forecast to drop further in the next few weeks while seafood and fresh aquaculture products continue to rise in price.
