Co.op Mart puts Tan Hiep Phat products back on the shelf
Saigon Co.op announced Wednesday it would continue selling Tan Hiep Phat beverage products five days after pulling the drinks from the shelves for food safety reasons.
Co.op Mart chain supermarkets had stopped selling Tan Hiep Phat products after police discovered 26 tons of expired ingredients being stored at a Tan Hiep Phat-owned warehouse in Binh Thanh District last week.
Police also found about 1,200 liters of expired flavor materials at another Tan Hiep Phat storage facility in Binh Duong Province. The provincial market management unit has not issued a statement regarding the material.
But Co.op, Vietnam’s leading retailer, said Tan Hiep Phat had since clarified the issue with the local firm.
Other supermarket chains like Big C and Maximart had followed Co.op in recalling Tan Hiep Phat products earlier this week.
Big C said it would continue selling the products once the beverage maker reassured the company.
Tan Hiep Phat’s soft drinks include Number 1 energy drink, Tra Xanh Khong Do sweetened green tea and Dr. Thanh sweetened herbal tea.
Tran Qui Thanh, the firm’s chairman, admitted that the flavor agents in the warehouse were expired but said they had not been used to produce beverages.
The firm applies quality management systems like ISO and HACCP, certified by international standard organization Det Norske Veritas from Denmark, Thanh said in a statement.
