Cooling product market ablaze

Cooling products have seen prices skyrocketing in accordance with the increasing summer heat. This is the first price increase wave seen this summer.

Home appliance centres said they have sold several hundred air conditioners a day in the last few days. Some buyers have to wait three days before air conditioners are installed because of a lack of workers. The severe heat in the last few days has led to the skyrocketing demand for cooling equipment.

Salesmen at MediaMart said that the shop was full of customers the last three days. The number of visitors increased by 150 percent in comparison with normal days, while air-conditioners proved to be the most wanted product.

Pico Plaza reported it sold 400 air conditioners on June 8 alone, the highest sales day so far this year. Meanwhile, sales of Media Mart have increased by 60 percent in comparison with ordinary days and by 30 percent in comparison with one month ago. Viet Long Home Appliance Centre has also reported the sales increase of 10-fold.

The centres said that the most preferred air conditioners are the ones priced at around 5 million dong. MediaMart said that the favourite brand name is Panasonic, and then LG and Samsung. Having realised the tastes of consumers nowadays, who are trying to tighten their belts and favour low-cost products, several home appliance centres have marketed air conditioners which are priced at 3.6 million dong only. The products are sourced from Malaysia.

The refrigerator is the second choice of buyers at this moment. At MediaMart, sales of refrigerators have increased by 30 percent. HC supermarket has said the sales of the product have risen by 150 percent over the beginning of summer. The buyers of refrigerators are not only people looking to replace their old ones, but also students, surprisingly.

Sanyo, Samsung and Toshiba prove to be the favourite brand names with the sale prices of between three and five million dong. Small shops on Hai Ba Trung street mostly receive clients seeking low-cost products, at below 3 million dong, manufactured by Funiki or Daewoo. Meanwhile, high-grade products are selling well at Viet Long thanks to the Samsung promotion week.

At Pico Plaza, customers are favouring products which are advertised as electricity-economising, like Coex brand name products. Malaysia-made electric pans with remote control, priced at 1.2 million dong, are also selling well.

Drinks have also seen prices soaring in the last few days. Sales agents are selling ice at 15,000 dong per kilogramme instead of 5,000 as previously. Bia hoi (beer) shops are all full of people these days. A glass of tea with ice sold for 3,000 dong yesterday, while a glass of sugar cane at 10,000 dong, and bia hoi increased by 2,000 dong per glass.
