PM orders waiting frozen cargo to be dealt with
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently ordered the Ministry of Industry and Trade to minimize the temporary import of frozen cargo for re-export, and take decisive steps to clear up frozen cargo waiting at Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province.
The PM made the decision after thousands of containers of frozen cargo, temporarily imported from Europe and the US, are waiting to be delivered at Hai Phong Port and the Mong Cai border gate, Quang Ninh Province, due to third parties refusing to take the goods.
The situation has resulted due to many countries tightening imports of frozen commodities to prevent epidemic diseases, while many Vietnamese companies are allowed to temporarily import them for re-export.
Authorities in Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province must closely coordinate with other relevant agencies in clearing those goods, and step up prevention and control of epidemics, the PM directed.
The PM also urged customs agencies to strengthen controls over temporary imports to prevent those goods from being consumed on the domestic market.
Relevant ministries, agencies and local authorities must report on the situation to the PM by June 30.
