Indochina Airlines to resume flights after breakdown
Vietnam’s first privately-owned airline, Indochina Airlines, will resume normal flights on Monday after a breakdown put its only plane out of operation for two days.
The air carrier had to postpone its Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City flight on Saturday after the plane’s cargo hold door broke, said airline spokeswoman Phi Anh.
The door was damaged when a carved stone statue of a dog bumped the cargo door of the Boeing 737-800 plane, Anh said on Sunday.
The airline, owned by music composer Ha Dung, said it arranged alternative flights for its passengers on the state-owned Vietnam Airlines during its two-day suspension.
The carrier also paid VND400,000 (US$22.50) as compensation to each affected passenger booked on the Hanoi-HCMC route and VND300,000 ($17) to each traveler booked on its HCMC-Danang route.
The HCMC-based Indochina Airlines launched its first commercial flight last November with two leased Boeing 737-800 aircrafts. However, the carrier gave up the lease on one of its planes late last month due to financial problems.
Indochina Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 can carry 174 passengers.
