ASEAN senior transport officials meet in Da Nang
The 27th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) opened in central coastal Da Nang city on May 27.
The three-day event, which elected Vietnam as President, draws the participations of transport delegations from 10 ASEAN members together with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The participants will discuss documents approved at the 15th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting (ATM), including a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in marine accident investigation, the sixth package on air services.
The 27th STOM will hear updated information on the implementation of the ASEAN Charter and a master plan and indexes to assess the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community.
The finalisation of procedures by a number of ASEAN member countries for the signing of the ASEAN framework agreement on the facilitation of inter-State transport and the ASEAN multilateral agreements on air services and on the full liberation of air freight services will also be presented at the meeting.
The participants will also consider reports presented by the 17th marine transport working group, the 19th air transport working group, the 15th land transport working group and the 17th transport facilitation working group, as well as the implementation of an ASEAN road network project.
The meeting will consider the ASEAN strategic transport and communication plan for 2011-2015 which is expected to be approved in 2010 and consider documents to be signed at the ATM by the end of 2009.
