Vietnam exports nearly 2 million tonnes of rice

Vietnam has exported around 1.891 million tonnes of rice so far this year, earning a turnover of nearly US$737 million, according to the Vietnam Food Association.

Currently, average quality rice is being sold at VND4,600 per kilo, high quality rice between VND4,800-4,900 and aromatic rice between VND5,100-5,200. After deducting all the expenses, farmers earned a profit of nearly 40 percent.

Vietnam should be able to export around 4.5-5 million tonnes of rice this year, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The MARD has also directed the Vietnam Food Association to work with the provinces to regulate the amount of rice export till the end of June this year.

The Vietnam Food Association reported that the amount of rice under contract for export has already reached nearly 4 million tonnes, accounting for 80-88 percent of total rice exports for the whole year.
