Quality control of construction projects enhanced

To enhance the quality control of construction projects, a body of law on standards and practices needs to be created in line with international standards, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai at a seminar to enhance the quality control of construction projects held by the Ministry of Construction on April 28 in Hanoi.

The construction sector has made a great contribution to national development in recent years as investment has been intensified in many fields such as infrastructure development, industry and public works. However, more attention should be given to management because of the poor quality of some construction projects.

It is essential for the construction sector to enhance national competitiveness of construction work management by building legal documents to bring construction practices in line with international standards, Mr Hai stressed.

According to Minister of Construction Nguyen Hong Quan, top priority should be given to ensuring the quality of construction projects, especially for large-scale national projects. While most projects have operated on a safe and cost-effective basis, there remain shortcomings in terms of quality at different levels due to international and external causes. For that reason, the Ministry of Construction needs to devise solutions for resolving this issue.

Head of the State Department for Construction Project Appraisal Le Quang Hung said that as many as 6,000 construction projects are carried out every year with a focus on increasing quality.

Over the past five years, more than 90 percent of projects were clarified as reaching the required quality while troubleshooting accounted only from 0.28 to 0.56 percent of a total number of projects each year.

In order to reduce violations of quality standards, participants at the seminar presented a number of reports on their experiences in implementing specific projects and worked out solutions for enhancing the quality of construction projects and investors’ management capacity.
