Digital marketing conference to open in HCMC in May
About 14 international marketing experts will flock to HCMC to attend the International Digital Marketing Conference to share experience in digital marketing and supply solutions, tools and platforms for digital marketing development.
The conference took place on May 23 in the New World Hotel, attracting speakers as practitioners from Apsilon International, MSS Digital, Yahoo! Southeast Asia, Brand Builders, Interactive Advertising Bureau, Omniture, and IncAdmax Network (S.E.A.). Around 15 Vietnamese advertising companies attended this event.
The conference is an initiative of Vietnamese marketing experts under the support of VietnamMarcom, the marketing researcher TNS, and AdMax Network. The organizers expect more than 1,000 attendees to the day-long exhibition and conference.
Phan Dang Dung, communication manager of the conference, said in statement that digital marketing, which has started to gain traction in Vietnam in recent years, may be one of the few sectors to post growth at a time of sharp economic slowdown in the country, as local companies look for more cost-effective ways to plug their products.
According to Dung, a report from Vietnam Advertising Association last year revealed online spending in the country was a modest figure of around US$10 million but it is interesting that its growth rate is forecasted at 50% per year.
Online advertisement is a segment of digital marketing and industry insiders show optimism about the sector in Vietnam.
Vu Minh Tri, general director of Yahoo Vietnam, said recently that Vietnam’s online advertisement market would strongly develop alongside the Internet penetration, with the number of Internet users expected to reach 28 million by 2010 compared to 26 million now.
“In addition, in the period of economic recession, marketers will choose Internet for advertisement to reduce expenditure,” he said.
According to a research conducted by Yahoo and the U.S- based market researcher Nielsen, Vietnam’s online advertisement turnover reached US$2.81 million in 2008 and will increase to US$7.8 million by 2010.
