Writing contest honours everyday examples

Nhan Dan (the People) newspaper, the People’s Army newspaper and the Labour newspaper have jointly organised a writing contest to honour outstanding examples in daily life.

After nearly one year since its launch, organisers have received 899 entries sent from professional and amateur writers nationwide, praising hundreds of people whose simple but noble deeds have benefited the community and the society.

The contest is held to mark the 60th anniversary of President’s Appeal on the Patriotic Emulation movement (June, 11, 1948- June 11, 2008) and to respond the Campaign on Studying and Following President Ho’s Morality.

The writing contest, called ‘Simple but Noble Examples’, was launched on April 22, 2008 in Hanoi, attracting the participation of 600 people. It aims to finding out outstanding people who have devoted themselves for the benefit of the community and country during the national renovation process (since 1986).

A number of 191 best writings have been published on all three above-said.

Through the writings, readers have learned about hundreds of people across the country whose deeds have influenced the community in a very active manner. They are workers, Buddhist followers, soldiers, teachers, students, intellectuals or ethnic minority people who do not care about their own benefit, on the contrary, they always strive to bring a better of life to their people. Though they have never been awarded by the Party and State, they are best regarded by all the people surrounding them.

Among 33 writings selected to the final round, the contest panel which includes 15 veteran journalists from the three newspapers, has presented two first prizes, accompanied with VND 15 million each; three second prizes plus VND 10 million each; five third prizes and VND 8 million each and 12 consolation prizes and VND 5 million each to writers.

The two first prizes belong to Nguyen Thi Thuy Ai from Gia Lai Teachers’ Training College whose story was published on the People newspaper and Nguyen Phan Dau from the Labour Newspaper.
