City supermarkets offer big holiday discounts
Many supermarkets and shopping malls in HCM City have launched or plan to launch major promotions for the upcoming Liberation Day on April 30 and May Day to attract buyers amid the continuing economic downturn.
Duong Thi Quynh Trang, director of public relations at French supermarket Big C, said since consumption was modest, with people tending to tighten their purse strings, producers, suppliers and distributors must co-operate to organise promotion programmes to attract more customers.
Sai Gon Co.op Mart has launched a promotion programme until May 9 offering a 50 per cent discount on essential goods and 5-30 per cent on home appliances. Customers will also get a gift for every bill worth VND200,000 (US$11.2) or more.
Maximark has cut prices of over 300 items by 5 to 50 per cent, while Citimart is offering a discount of 10-20 per cent on more than 1,000 items.
Shopping mall Zen Plaza will offer gifts for every bill of over VND500,000 ($28.1) from April 24 to May 3. Most fashion shops there will offer discounts of 20-50 per cent.
Many major electronics shops like Thien Hoa, Cho Lon and Nguyen Kim are also offering discounts of 10-30 per cent on a range of products.
Supermarkets expect the promotions to bring people flocking in and are stocking up commodities to take advantage.
Restaurants, hotels and tourism sites belonging to the Sai Gon Tourism Corporation or the Saigontourist have also announced a series of attractive promotions.
Binh Quoi tourist village, for instance, will offer discounts of 10 per cent on the entrance ticket, and boat rides.
De Nhat Lau Restaurant in Tan Binh District has announced a 10 per cent discount on bills during the holidays.
