Dak Lak aims to triple value of timber exports by 2015

The central highland province of Dak Lak has planned to increase the annual value of its exports to nearly VND200 billion by 2010 and VND350 billion by 2015.

To reach their targets, the province is striving to have 70 percent of sawmills installed with modern machinery and processing facilities. It is also focused on increasing the acreage of forests to meet domestic demand for at least 100,000 cubic metres of wood a year.

Dak Lak currently has 466 sawmills, however, only 15 use modern technology. Every year the province earns about VND120 billion from exporting timber.
