First online meeting to tackle housing challenges
How to settle housing problems in urban areas dominated the first online meeting held by the Ministry of Construction, construction corporations, banks, and five provinces and cities on April 14.
Hanoi, HCM City, northern Vinh Phuc province and southern Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces, amongst others, discussed capital difficulties, short loan terms, the lack of clean land funds and management guidance on housing for students and workers in concentrated industrial zones.
Deputy Minister of Construction, Nguyen Tran Nam, said that his ministry will propose that the government apply preferential mechanisms for businesses’ projects to encourage the development of a housing fund and to assist in infrastructure development.
Nam went on to confirm that students – the country’s future – will be given top priority in accessing housing.
As much as VND8 trillion, of the total VND20 trillion that the government has proposed to deal with businesses’ capital difficulties, will be used to build houses for students during the 2009-2011 period.
However, he said, businesses should not wait for the capital, but can seek necessary funding themselves or take out loans to carry out the projects immediately. “The government is determined to develop a housing fund,” asserted the Deputy Minister. The ministry will propose a supplement to land funds to provide accommodation for workers in industrial zones and also a housing scheme for industrial zones, he added.
