City firms invest $1.3bil in Nghe An
HCM City-based enterprises have invested over VND22 trillion (US$1.27 billion) in the central province of Nghe An since 2003, according to a report tabled by the two sides at a conference yesterday.
The report, by the two the city's Department of Planning and Investment, showed that 12 projects with a total investment of VND1.7 trillion ($98 million) are operational.
These include the Cua Lo dairy company and several wood processing factories, which together have provided for more than 800 full-time jobs.
Work is under way at 19 other projects with an investment of VND6.1 trillion ($351 million), including Thanh An Hospital, Saigon Eye Hospital, and BMC luxury apartment and trading centre.
A further 23 projects with combined capital of VND14.2 trillion ($812 million) are completing either feasibility studies or paperwork.
Nguyen The Trung, Nghe An's Party Committee Secretary and People's Council chairman, said HCM City firms' investment has contributed to his province's economic growth.
He admitted that Nghe An's shortage of services and infrastructure has increased transport costs for the investors.
Politburo member and HCM City Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai said the co-operation between the city and Nghe An is mutually beneficial.
HCM City would help its enterprises invest in Nghe An, he promised, urging the province to streamline its investment procedures.
