Vocational training move benefits 60,000 rural people

With just almost 46 billion VND for 57 provinces and cities, the national industrial promotion programme has helped train over 59,000 rural workers in 2008, said a senior official.

Nguyen Dinh Hoang Long, Head of the Local Industry Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said the scheme has also helped upgrade life-skills for almost 1,800 others, or 5.38 times over 2007, and provided management skills for another 2,800 people from the countryside.

Rural industrial establishments have contributed over 77.7 billion VND to promote two famous traditional trademarks of wickerwork and natural silk, hold exhibition-fairs of industrial products from northern, central and Central Highlands regions.

Their financial contributions have also helped in zoning off industrial parks in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, the central provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Nam and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong . In addition, five professional associations and alliances of woolen weaving and natural silk producing traditional craft villages in Hanoi were founded.

In addition to the central government budget, local administrations of 59 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide have allocated almost 60.2 billion VND from their own budgets to the industrial promotion programmes. Some provinces such as Hanoi capital, Nam Dinh and Thai Binh in the north, Quang Nam and Nghe An in the central region and Dak Lak and Lam Dong in the Central Highlands have disbursed between 1.7 billion and 6.6 billion each for this purpose.

Local industrial promotion programmes have also held training courses for almost 3,000 rural people interested in starting up businesses, helped in the transfer of technology for 135 rural industrial establishments and provided equipment for rural industrial promotion centres.
