First container ship docks at Quang Ninh port in 2009

The Japanese ship Galandway that can carry 1,500 containers has become the first cargo vessel to arrive at Quang Ninh port in northern Vietnam in early 2009.

The event on January 1 is good news to the staff of the port, which is the only one in the north capable of receiving 50,000 DWT ships.

Quang Ninh port has the duties of handling import-export goods and guiding ships operating within the Quang Ninh sea area.

Since the end of 2008, the port has invested in purchasing modern facilities for cargo transport and handling. It strives to have three million tonnes of freight transported through it in the new year.
