Workshop on Red River basin economic, cultural exchange opens

An international workshop on economic-cultural exchange in the Red River basin was opened in Lao Cai town, northern mountainous Lao Cai province on Dec. 18-19.

The two-day workshop, the second of its kinds, brought together scientists from Vietnam, Chinese Yunnan province’s Honghe prefecture and Honghe Institute, Singapore and France.

Besides discussions on economic and cultural exchange, participants also presented research papers on human resource development cooperation in the region and the development of the Hanoi-Lao Cai-Kunming railway system.

Their schedule includes field trips to localities along the Red River which runs through Vietnam ’s Lao Cai and China ’s Yunnan provinces.

The first workshop on socio-economic development in the Red River basin was hosted by Honghe institute in 2005.
