Japanese businesses eye local suppliers

Japanese manufacturing firms are seeking local Vietnamese partners in supporting industries, said a senior official from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Friday.

Yoshioka Kenji, JETRO’s managing director in Ho Chi Minh City, said Japanese businesses tend to outsource their component and spare part suppliers to Asian countries and territories with low-cost labor.

Vietnamese firms are being targeted to supply Japanese manufacturers of automobiles, electronics and plastics, Keri i said, adding that JETRO will hM an exhibition later this month in HCMC to connect Japanese businesses to local counterparts.

JETRO had held a similar exhibition in Hanoi last year, securing 56 contracts with Vietnamese suppliers, Kenji said.
