Decision on bus advertising delayed

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has postponed a decision on a proposal to allow advertising on the sides of buses, the Department of Transport said Friday.

The committee said that advertising activities in the city still had many shortcomings that influenced Vietnamese people’s traditional habits and customs.

The management of advertising was loose and the regulations unclear, the committee said.

Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tai asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to collect opinions from district governments to amend the committee’s decision which bans advertising on public transport.

The project was submitted to the municipal committee last month by the Department of Transport. It was expected to raise VND100 billion (US$5.9 million) a year.
