HCM City’s export turnover likely to hit US$24.4 billion in 2008
Ho Chi Minh City recorded an export turnover, excluding crude oil, of US$12.98 billion in the past 11 months of this year, up 35.5 percent over the same period last year.
This was announced at a conference held in HCM City on Dec. 9 to discuss the import-export situation in 2008 and work out orientations for 2009.
The city’s export turnover is likely to reach US$14 billion in 2008, surpassing the set yearly target by 12 percent and seeing a year-on-year increase of 34 percent. Taking crude oil into account, HCM City’s export turnover is expected to hit US$24.4 billion in 2008, making up 38.3 percent of the country’s total figure, or up 27.3 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the HCM City Department for Industry and Trade, the city’s export turnover, excluding crude oil, will reach US$16.31 billion in 2009, increasing by 16.5 percent over this year and bringing its annual export growth to 19.8 percent on average in the 2006-2009 period. Taking crude oil into account, HCM City’s export turnover will be US$25.46 billion next year, up 4.4 percent.
