Vietnam – investment destination for French businesses
Vietnam is a potential investment environment for French businesses, Hubert Colaris, Head of the Economic Mission at the French Embassy in Hanoi, said at a recent workshop in Paris, France.
Colaris presented an overview on Vietnam’s current economy, highlighting political stability and determination of the Vietnamese Party and Government in the fight against corruption.
Vietnam has made significant progress in administrative reform and foreign investment’s attraction, he said, highlighting the Southeast Asian country’s strengths in economic development like abundant human resources, high degree of international integration and high economic growth rate in consecutive years.
According to the Head of the Economic Mission, considerable increase in Vietnam’s export last year and 57.2 billion USD foreign direct investment in the first nine months of this year are evidences for the country’s economic development.
He hailed Vietnam’s efforts in justice reform in the fields of finance, foreign investment and state businesses’ renovation since the country joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Colaris pointed out difficulties and challenges Vietnam is facing, including poor infrastructure, high inflation and natural calamities.
Meanwhile, the advisor to the Casino Chairman commented that Vietnam is a potential consumption market that major distributors have not yet explored.
He attributed the young population, increasing consumption demand, living condition improvement and opening of door to elements making the attractiveness of the consumption market in Vietnam .
The workshop themed “Vietnam’s opportunities and challenges: are our opportunity in the next five years” was jointly held by the Agency to support French businesses entering foreign countries (UBIFRACE), Economic Mission at the French Embassy in Hanoi and the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The workshop was an opportunity for French businesses to inquire into investment environment, chances for business in Vietnam as well as foreign investment incentives of the Vietnamese Government. Representatives from French businesses operating in Vietnam attended the workshop.
