HCM City sees CPI decrease in October
Ho Chi Minh City ’s consumer price index (CPI) in October dropped 0.24 percent against last month, the first decrease over the past 18 months, according to the city’s Statistics Department.
The city’s CPI rose an accumulated 19.4 percent since the beginning of the year and 25.69% over the last 12 months.
CPI falls were seen in three out of ten commodity groups in the price basket with housing, electricity and water, and construction materials experiencing the largest drop of 1.92 percent, followed by transport and telecommunication services, 1.22 percent, and food and restaurant services, 0.19 percent.
Economic experts said that the price decline can be attributable to the government’s inflation control measures and the decreasing trend in world prices.
HCM City will further strengthen price control measures and inspection of goods supply and quality between now and the year-end to meet consumption demand during the upcoming shopping season.
