Tightening measures to promote socio-economic development
A training course on local socio-economic development in the process of international economic integration opened in Hanoi on August 6 for 170 trainees who are chairmen and vice chairmen of people’s committees and people’s councils across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly valued the significance of the course, saying it provides a good chance for local authorities to gain a better knowledge of socio-economic management.
In the face of global economic slowdown, the Vietnamese economy still achieved high growth rates of 7.4 percent in the first quarter of this year and 6.5 percent in the first half of this year. The slow increase in the consumer price index in recent months showed that measures to contain inflation were beginning to pay off, PM Dung stressed.
He urged all ministries, departments and localities to focus on controlling inflation, stabilising the macro-economy and mobilising all capital for economic development as well as improving the effective use of the State budget. The should ensure an adequate supply of necessary commodities for daily life and production such as petrol, rice, medicine, cement, steel and fertilizer, control price hikes and strictly deal with speculators while promoting exports and limiting imports to reduce the trade deficit.
During the two-day training course, trainees will also listen to advantages and challenges facing the country after two years of joining the World Trade Organisation, and other issues related to the management of land, natural resources, environment, economic security, anti-corruption and maintenance of social order in localities.
