Work starts on biggest software park in Vietnam

A Taiwanese-Vietnamese joint venture started work on what is slated to be the country’s largest software park Saturday in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 2.

The 15.9-hectare software park in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area will require a total investment of US$1.2 billion, to be sourced from local company SaigonTel and TA Associates Vietnam, a consortium of three Taiwanese firms – Teco Electrical and Machinery Co., Shining Group and the Industrial Bank of Taiwan.

The park aims to provide facilities to develop and outsource software for export, to design circuits and chips, and to develop human resources.

Investors said they expected that once operational in late 2012, the second software park in the new urban area after the $610-million Vietnam-Japan Brain Park would employ around 70,000 laborers and generate annual revenue of $6.5 billion.
