Vietnam to export 120,000 tons of catfish to Russia

Vietnam will export 120,000 tons of tra or pangasius catfish to Russia this year, with the first shipment expected early next month, a seafood association official said Thursday.

Pangasius fish sells for between VND15,500 (US$0.89) and VND16,000 ($0.92) a kilo but it is hard to buy, said Duong Ngoc Minh, vice chairman of the Freshwater Fish Association under the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, and general director of Hung Vuong Joint-stock Company in Mekong Delta Tien Giang Province.

Minh’s company contracted farmers in the region to raise the fish on about 400 hectares to guarantee a stable supply, he said.
