US leads in terms of number of visitors to Vietnam
As many as 90,000 American people arrived in Vietnam during the first two months of 2009, a year-on-year increase of 40 percent, making the US rank first with regard to the number of foreigners visiting the Southeast Asian country.
The numbers of arrivals from Australia, France and Canada also went up by 12-30 percent as compared with the same period last year, said the General Statistics Office.
However, the total number of foreign arrivals in Vietnam during the reviewed period was just under 689,000, a year-on-year decrease of more than 10 percent.
Of the total foreigners, 403,000 came for tourism and convalescence purposes, roughly 108,000 for business, and the remainder for visits to their families.
The number of visitors from China, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Taiwan declined during the past two months.
