Building a new 105,000-tonne oil tanker

The Dung Quat Shipyard under the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) began building a new 105,000 tonne oil tanker on February 26.

This oil tanker will be installed with modern equipment to meet the requirements of International Marine Conventions.

Dinh Tien Dung, deputy director of the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, said that to build the 105,000 tonne oil tanker, the group had sent its key engineers for overseas training in Poland and the Republic of Korea. The oil tanker is expected to be launched by the end of the year.

Later, the shipyard will build two new 105,000 tonne oil tankers under the contract signed with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and Vinashin.

At present, the factory is putting the finishing touches to a 104,000 tonne oil tanker so that it will be launched in June 2009 to carry crude to the Dung Quat Oil Refinery.
