Stocks wrap week in low note

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index resumed losing trend on July 27 as large-cap stocks failed to prop up market amid investors’ cautiousness.

The index of 303 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dipped 0.4 percent, or 1.64 points, to close at 413.16 points with 78 gainers, 177 losers, and 54 remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse rose by 24.6 percent in volume, and 49 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 38.34 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND620.18 billion.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) stayed at the spot of most active share in volume for three straight trading sessions with 2.69 million shares changing hands.

Sacom Development & Investment Corporation (SAM) climbed to second place with 1.57 million shares.

Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corporation (KBC) followed with 1.4 million shares traded.

Bien Hoa Packaging Company (SVI) slashed 8.3 percent to close at VND22,100.

Pacific Property & Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (PPI) and Tai Nguyen Corporation (TNT) both undermined 5 percent to close at VND5,700, and VND3,800 respectively.

Long An Food Processing Export Joint Stock Company (LAF) marched south for six consecutive trading sessions, giving up 4.88 percent to close at VND7,800.

Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company (TDW) emerged 5 percent to close at VND21,000.

Godaco Seafood Joint Stock Company (AGD) and Cotec Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD) boosted 4.92 percent to close at VND44,800, and VND34,100 respectively.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) extended its winning streak to fourth day, gaining 4.81 percent to close at VND19,600.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – lost 1.17 points, or 0.24 percent, to end at 489.61. Among its 30 members, 6 stocks edged up, 16 went down, and 8 moved flat.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north pared 1.06 percent, or 0.74 points, to close at 69.35 points with 69 winners, 145 losers, and 61 stocks stalling. Around 40.76 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND369.78 billion.

HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – curbed 1.45 percent, or 1.93 points, to finish at 131.56 points.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares eroded 0.94 percent, or 0.35 points, to close at 37.01 points. A total of 349,129 shares changed hands at VND2.54 billion.
