Large-cap stocks weigh market down

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index dipped on June 11 as several large-cap stocks were nailed to low levels.

The gauge of 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange slid 0.09 per cent, or 0.4 points, to close at 432.5 points.

On the benchmark, 136 stocks gained, 103 lost, while 69 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse dropped by 17.5 per cent in volume, and 1.6 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 68.12 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.17 trillion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume with 2.76 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) tagged along with 2.13 million shares, followed by Hoang Quan Consulting - Trading - Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) with 1.79 million shares traded.

Chang Yih Ceramic Joint Stock Company (CYC) declined for four straight trading sessions, reducing 5 per cent to close at VND1,900.

Ben Tre Forestry & Aqua Product Import Export Joint Stock Company (FBT) tore 4.76 per cent to close at VND12,000.

Hamico Mineral Group (KSH) snapped its four-day winning streak, losing 4.35 per cent to close at VND11,000.

Vinafco Joint Stock Corporation (VFC) resumed its winning momentum, resurrecting 5 per cent to close at VND8,400.

Hoa Sen Group (HSG) climbed for three consecutive trading sessions, accelerating 4.98 per cent to close at VND21,100.

Dong A Plastic Joint Stock Company (DAG) and OPC Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (OPC) both grew 4.96 per cent to close at VND12,700, and VND36,000 respectively.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – ticked up 1.84 points, or 0.36 per cent, to end at 509.99. Among its 30 members, 18 stocks aroused, 7 tumbled, and 5 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north revived 0.96 per cent, or 0.72 points, to close at 75.8 points with 145 winners, 89 losers, and 65 stocks treading water. Around 60.36 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND629.44 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares reclaimed 0.45 per cent, or 0.16 points, to close at 36.08 points. A total of 696,113 shares changed hands at VND12.78 billion
