Equities kick off April on bright note

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rebounded on April 4 as investors’ regained confidence after a long holiday break.

The measure of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange reclaimed 1.07 per cent, or 4.74 points, to close at 445.77 points, with 169 gainers, 96 losers, and 45 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse dropped by 10 per cent in volume, and 6 per cent in value over the previous trading session as 59.84 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND830.76 billion.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was most active share in volume with 4.56 million shares changing hands.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came next with 3.2 million shares.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) tagged along with 3.07 million shares traded.

Big winners on the city bourse included Hamico Mineral Group (KSH), Na Ri Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSS), Royal International Corporation (RIC), and Construction Joint Stock Company No 5 (SC5).

Bank For Investment and Development of Vietnam Insurance Joint Stock Corporation (BIC) declined for three straight days, closing down 13.58 per cent to VND7,000. The company will pay dividends to its current shareholders in cash at a ratio of 10 per cent on April 26.

Petrolimex Joint Stock Company (PGI) ditched 11.96 per cent to close at VND8,100.

Hoang Long Group (HLG) adjusted 8.26 per cent to close at VND10,000.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – climbed 5.7 points, or 1.14 per cent, to end at 505.77. Among its 30 members, 24 stocks advanced, 4 retreated and 2 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north rocketed 3.17 per cent, or 2.29 points, to close at 74.49 points, with 236 winners, 55 losers, and 34 stocks treading water. More than 66.72 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND623.51 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares revived 0.17 per cent, or 0.06 points, to close at 35.09 points. A total of 279,856 shares changed hands at VND1.32 billion.
