VN-Index rebounds on local buying

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index was scooped up by local buying on February 7 after a slight decline the previous day as investors believed that rising trend would persist.

The index of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange salvaged 0.34 per cent, or 1.35 points, to close at 401.08 points.

Among the index members, 131 advanced, 101 retreated, while 74 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse rose by 12 per cent in volume and 24 per cent in value as around 37.02 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND531 billion.

The third largest listed lender Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) was the most active share in volume with 4.2 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, was the second most active share with 1.6 million shares traded.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) finished third with 1.54 million shares.

South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) revived 6.25 per cent to close at VND1,700.

Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) escalated for three consecutive trading sessions, adding up 5 per cent to VND6,300.

Saigon Fuel Joint Stock Company (SFC) and South Logistics Joint Stock Company (STG) both retrieved 4.95 per cent to close at VND19,100.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) slashed 14.29 per cent to close at VND600.

Seaprodex Refrigeration Industry Corporation (SRF) and Taicera Enterprise Company (TCR) dropped 5 per cent to close at VND19,000 and VND5,700 respectively.

Savimex Corporation (SAV) shrank 4.97 per cent to close at VND17,200.

The VN30 Index climbed 1.84 points, or 0.41 percent, to end at 449.31 points. Among its 30 members, 17 stocks rallied, 9 dipped and 4 were unmoved.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north rose 1.69 per cent, or 1.04 points, to close at 62.53 points. Around 38.32 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND328.29 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares shed 0.29 per cent, or 0.1 points, to 34.46 points at 11:30 am local time. A total of 130,600 shares were traded at VND619 million.
