VN-Index rises as blue-chips gain ground
Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index advanced the second day on January 10 as blue-chip stocks gained ground amid improved sentiment, thanks to impressive performance the previous day.

The gauge of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange rocketed 1.58 percent, or 5.36 points, to close at 344.68 points.
Among the index members, 168 climbed, 48 retreated, while 90 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse fell by 80 percent in volume and value over the previous day as 36.56 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND500 billion.
The fourth largest listed bank Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) led the list of most active shares in volume for eight trading sessions with 2.77 million shares changing hands.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, won second rank with 1.56 million shares.
Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) came next with 1.22 million shares traded.
Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) leaped forward 6.25 percent to close at VND1,700.
Ninh Van Bay Travel Real Estate Joint Stock Company (NVT) strengthened 5.26 percent to close at VND2,000.
Other gainers included Petroleum Pipeline and Tank Construction Joint Stock Company (PXT), Thanh Cong Textile Garment Investment Trading Joint Stock Company (TCM), and Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC).
Trans-forwarding Warehouse Corporation of Ho Chi Minh City (TMS) and Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (DNP) closed down 4.98 percent to finish at VND21,000 and VND26,700 respectively.
Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) plunged 4.96 percent to VND23,000.
Viet An Joint Stock Company (AVF) and Cuong Thuan IDICO Development Investment Corporation (CTI) sank 4.95 percent to finish at VND9,600, and VND17,300 respectively.
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north also rebounded 1.59 percent, or 0.88 points, to close at 56.15 points. Around 28.25 million shares changed hands at a value of VND255.39 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares shed 0.21 percent, or 0.07 points, to 33.42 points at 2:53pm local time. More than 6.36 million shares changed hands at a value of VND314.25 billion.
