VN-Index rebounds, after boost by STB
Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index jumped from a three-year low on January 9 as an impressive performance of the fourth largest listed lender STB amid a downtrend market boosted sentiment.

The measure of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange recovered 0.77 percent, or 2.59 points, to close at 339.32 points. Last week, it dropped 4.2 percent.
Among the index members, 110 winners, 91 losers, while 105 stocks remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse rose 5 times higher in volume and value over the previous day as 171.18 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND2.62 trillion.
The fourth largest listed bank Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume for seven trading sessions with 3.52 million shares changing hands.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (HAG) followed with 855,110 shares.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, came in third with 849,080 shares traded.
Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) sprang 14.29 percent to close at VND800.
Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) shot up 8.33 percent to close at VND1,300.
Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VES) regained 7.14 percent to close at VND1,500.
Cosmetics producer SPM Joint Stock Company (SPM) curbed its three-day winning streak, paring 4.95 percent to finish at VND49,900.
Dinh Vu Port Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (DVP) edged down the third day, giving up 4.93 percent to VND32,800.
Na Ri Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSS) extended its losing run to four straight trading sessions, losing 4.92 percent to finish at VND5,800.
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north tripped 0.29 percent, or 0.16 points, to close at 55.27 points. Around 22 million shares changed hands at a value of VND158 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slid 0.36 percent, or 0.12 points, to close at 33.49 points. More than 2.39 million shares changed hands at a value of VND115.04 billion.
