BCEL volumes dominate as index gives up gains

The index was distorted somewhat yesterday by EDL-Gen's -100 kip fall on very low trades of just 20K stocks, as opposed to BCEL's gain of +50 kip on higher and superior volumes of just under 1/4 million shares.

That's why you always check the volumes and not rely solely on the closing price or the close of the index. There are no supporting fundamentals to validate the decline of the index, nor the fall in stock prices. The fundamantals in fact point to the exact opposite, that trading should go in the opposite direction.

Shareholders will be anticipating further dividend announcements in Q1 2012. On Monday the stock exchange momentum benefited as BCEL volumes flooded the market during the first session, with a profit take on 171,335 stocks for 1,285,012,500 kip.

The index, despite BCEL's stellar performance, had a bumpy ride yesterday when it opened 1.1 points lower, then climbed 2.39 points higher for the 3rd and 4th sessions before losing ground in the last two sessions to close down -16.48 points (-1.78 percent) at 907.21.

At the close, a very good turnover of 244.6K stocks had traded for 1.77B kip (US$211,439).
