VN-Index rises seventh day; liquidity improved

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index advanced for seven consecutive trading sessions to a two-month high on September 5 as some blue-chip stocks rallied amid profit-taking.

The measure of 294 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange added up 0.1 percent, or 0.44 points, to close at 435.73 points.

Last week, the gauge gained 7.64 percent, cutting this year’s loss to 10 percent.

On the benchmark, 104 stocks raised, 131 dropped, while 64 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse slightly rose over the previous trading session as more than 52.7 million shares changed hands at a value of VND812.1 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, was the most active share in volume with 3.12 million shares changing hands.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) followed with 2.57 million shares.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) chased after with 2.45 million shares traded.

Biggest gainers on the city bourse included Ben Tre Aqua Product Import and Export (ABT), Dong Do Marine Joint Stock Company (DDM), and Mekophar Chemical Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (MKP). They all soared 5 percent to VND42,000, VND4,200, and VND52,500 respectively.

Vinacafé Bien Hoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) climbed for four straight trading sessions, fortifying 4.95 percent to VND95,500.

Saigon Fuel Joint Stock Company (SFC) went up 4.94 percent to VND25,500.

COMA 18 Joint Stock Company (CIG) tumbled 6.45 percent to close at VND5,800. The company will pay dividends to its current shareholders by shares at a ratio of 12 percent.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) deteriorated 5.88 percent to VND1,600.

International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI) and Dry Cell and Storage Battery Joint Stock Company (PAC) waned 5 percent to VND9,500 and VND34,200 respectively.

The HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north unexpectedly made correction. The index of 386 companies lost 0.33 percent, or 0.25 points, to close at 75.11 points. Trading volume improved by 30 percent over the previous trading session as 69.38 million shares were traded at VND827 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares dimmed 0.41 percent, or 0.13 points, to 31.37 points. A total of 233,765 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.31 billion at 11:30 am local time.
