Yunnan’s yuan China firms eye Kingdom

Four firms from China’s Yunnan province have expressed interest in investing in the Kingdom’s oil, mining, rice and hydroelectricity sectors, according to Commerce Ministry officials.

The firms met with Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh on Tuesday, aiming to replicate their business models in Cambodia, said Statistics Department Director Kong Putheara. “They want to know clearly the investment situation in the country,” he said yesterday.

The delegation comprised officials from Yunnan Hydro Lancang International Energy, Yunnan Coal Company, Guoxin Tendering Group, and a fourth firm.

Cham Prasidh encouraged the firms to invest, and highlighted the Kingdom’s open foreign ownership rules. He also suggested Yunnan Hydro focus on smallehydropower projects, as larger projects can cause negative issues, according to Kong Putheara.
