Stocks fall with modest trading
Nearly 60 per cent of stocks fell Monday morning, sending the VN-Index in the HCM City Stock Exchange down 0.42 per cent to close at 457.25 points.
Trading in the southern market was 5.6 per cent higher than last Friday at 24.6 million shares, worth VND541.2 billion (US$25.8 million).
A total of 165 codes declined, of which 14 dropped to their floor prices, including Viet Nam Sun Corporation (VNS) down 4.6 per cent to VND22,800, Seaprodex Refrigeration Industry Company (SRF) down 4.8 per cent to VND23,800 and Mien Dong Company (MDG) down 4.9 per cent to VND13,600.
Most blue chips also lost value, including property developer Vincom (VIC) down 0.8 per cent, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) down 1.1 per cent, finance conglomerate Ocean Group (OGC) down 2.1 per cent, Masan Group (MSN) down 2.4 per cent and Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) down 2.7 per cent.
Only software producer FPT Corporation (FPT) managed a gain, climbing 4.2 per cent.
The HNX-Index in Ha Noi fell 1.04 per cent to close at 90.1 points.
Volume in the northern market fell 9.7 per cent from last Friday to 20.5 million shares, worth VND311.8 billion ($14.8 million).
