Shares decline on slow trading
Both stock indices lost over 0.4 per cent Friday morning as about 46 per cent of codes posted losses on the two national stock exchanges.
On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index retreated 0.43 per cent to close at 459.17 points. The trading value declined more than 9 per cent over yesterday to more than VND490.8 billion (US$23.5 million) with just 23.3 million shares changing hands.
Decliners outnumbered advancers by 122-79.
Blue chips performed poorly. Among the 10 largest capitalised shares, only three shares – Eximbank (EIB), finance Masan Group (MSN) and property developer Vincom (VIC) – closed unchanged.
PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) decreased 2.4 per cent, insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) was down 2 per cent, Sacombank (STB) closed down 1.4 per cent and software producer FPT Corporation (FPT) and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Company (HAG) were down 0.9 per cent.
Refrigeration Electrical Engineering (REE) became the most active stock on the southern bourse today with nearly 1.6 million shares changing hands. REE closed up 2.3 per cent to VND13,300 ($0.64).
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index declined 0.46 per cent to finish at 91.05 points.
Both trading volume and value decreased slightly compared to yesterday, totalling over 22.6 million shares worth VND336 billion ($16.1 million).
Losers outnumbered gainers by 176-100.
VNDirect Securities Company (VND) was again the most heavily traded share with over 2 million shares changing hands, closing down 2.6 per cent at VND14,800 ($0.71).
