Gold, dollar prices slightly down
Gold price Monday afternoon slipped VND300,000 to below the VND38 million threshold set late last week after gaining VND200,000 in the morning trading session, while dollar price also edged down to VND22,050-22,150 a dollar.
Opening the new week, the gold price rose nearly VND200,000 a tael from the previous day, standing at VND38.18 million a tael, while the price of the greenback in the free market fell from VND22,400 to VND22,300-22,350 a dollar.
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Monday announced the interbank average FX rate at VND20,673 a dollar, falling VND5 from last Friday by which commercial banks listed the FX rate at VND20,780-20.880 a dollar.
Monday’s immediately delivered gold price in the Asian market via the Kitco.com increased nearly $6, to trade at $1,395 per ounce.
In the world market last week, the gold price continued to increase despite the China's move of tightening the monetary policy.
At the New York market, the gold price delivered in April 2011 increased $3.5 per ounce, or 0.3 percent to $1,388.6 per ounce. Also in this market, the gold price delivered in February 2011 surged $3.5 per ounce to $1,388.2 per ounce.
The US dollar price late last week decreased VND50 from previous week to trade around VND22,200-22,350 a dollar.
