Gold, dollar prices rise strongly

Domestic gold prices on Wednesday surged by VND270,000 a tael compared to late yesterday afternoon following a worldwide uptrend, while the greenback kept rising on the unofficial market.

Saigon Jewelry Holding Company. (SJC) at 10:00 pam. Today quoted gold prices at VND36.63 million and VND36.70 million per tael for buying and selling respectively. A tael equals 1.2 troy ounces., Sacombank’s SBJ  bought and sold Thang Long Dragon gold at VND36.64 million and VND36.70 million a tael.

Meanwhile, Bao Tin Minh Chau Company in Hanoi bought and sold Thang Long Dragon gold at VND36.68 million and VND36.78 million a tael.

In free market, most  shop owners said investors kept a “wait-and-see” attitude as they were afraid of sudden developments of the currency market and SJC prices are VND 36.65 and 36.75 (buying) and (Selling ).

Gold prices continued rising on the Asian market on 10 am today. In Hong Kong (China ) market, the yellow metal is 1.373,2 USD/ounce (buying) and  1.373,9 USD/ounce (Selling).

The central bank on Wednesday announced the interbank rate at VND 20.805 /USD (Buying) and  VND 20.905 (Selling). On the unofficial market, the dollar soared to VND 21.680 /USD and VND 21.750 for buying and selling respectively.
