Gold prices shoot up

Domestic gold rose by VND400,000/tael in only two hours on February 18 morning.

Early in the morning, gold prices went up by VND350,000-370,000/tael compared to the previous day’s transaction.

On February 17, SJC gold was traded at VND36.88-36.97 million/tael, sometimes at VND37.1 million/tael.

By 9.30am on February 18, it hovered around VND37.35-37.48 million/tael.

In the world market, gold prices hit a one-month record high of US$1,385 per ounce.

On February 18, the inter-bank exchange rate dropped to VND20.678 per US dollar. In Hanoi’s free market, it was at VND21.900-22.050 per US dollar and VND29.750-29.950 per Euro.
