City to impose price control plan

The city's annual price-stabilisation programme will begin in April and be effective for a full year, according to the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade.

Prices of nine essential goods will be 10 per cent lower than the typical price.

The products include rice, sugar, cooking oil, eggs, poultry, livestock meat, processed food, vegetables, fruits and seafood.

Eligible enterprises operating outside the city will be encouraged to take part in the programme, which currently includes only 14 enterprises.

Next year, these goods are expected to account for 20-30 per cent of market share and 30-40 per cent of demand for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Last year's price-stabilisation programme ran for only 10 months, beginning in June. It will end in late March this year.
