Central province calls for investment

The central province of Thua Thien–Hue has drawn up a plan for the 2011-15 period that calls for more investment in tourism and new infrastructure for economic zones, industrial parks and new urban areas.

Nguyen Van Cao, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said the province would call for investment to the Chan May–Lang Co Economic Zone, Hue City and industrial parks such as Phu Bai, Phong Dien, Tu Ha and La Son.

Investors from both HCM City and Ha Noi as well as foreign markets of Japan, South Korea and Singapore will be targeted.

Located in the central region's key economic zone, with Phu Bai International Airport and Chan May Deep Seaport, Thua Thien–Hue Province has great investment potential. Over the past three years, it has become one of Viet Nam's top 10 localities in attracting investment, according to the province's Department of Planning and Investment.

As of the end of last year, the province had a total of 328 projects with combined registered capital of more than VND80 trillion (US$4 billion), including 69 foreign foreign-invested projects, with a total registered capital of $2.5 billion.

In 2006, the province had only 34 small-scale foreign-invested projects.

This year the province hopes to attract 15 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of about $200 million.

Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Secretary of the province's Party Committee, said a favourable investment environment had been created. These include preferential policies on taxes, import and export duties, investment procedures and land rental prices, according to the provincial People's Committee.

Besides preferential policies, the province will also expand promotion activities in the investment, commerce and services sectors.

In addition, it will co-operate with other cities, including HCM City and Ha Noi, to promote investment in the province.
