ADB helps develop water system in Vietnam
The Asia Development Bank (ADB) has pledged to lend Vietnam US$1 billion to implement its programme to develop the water system in the country for the 2011-2010 period, according to the Department of Infrastructure at the Ministry of Construction.
This year alone, ADB plans to offer US$250 million for the project to prevent the waste of clean water and another US$1.5 million for technical assistance.
The project will focus on improving public awareness, enhancing the local authorities’ competences, raising the management ability for the water supply units and complete the regulations to prevent the waste of clean water.
Technically, the clean water loss can be avoided by upgrading the pipeline network, water meters, devices that detect water loss and other equipment.
The activities of the project will be funded by the State budget, the Official Development Assistance (ODA) sources, credit investment and capital of the water supply units and other sources.
The Ministry of Construction will cooperate with related ministries and departments to mobilise the ODA capital from the ADB, the World Bank and other organisations for the project.
