Lao-Thai exhibition promotes products, friendship

Lao and Thai stallholders are currently displaying their wares at the 2011 Lao-Thai Trade Exhibition in Vientiane, aiming to promote both countries' products and increase cooperation between the two countries.

An opening ceremony at Lao-ITECC was held on Wednesday; the exhibition featuring more than 300 stalls will run until January 30.

The Lao products on display include food and drink, handicrafts and furniture, while Thailand is exhibiting construction materials, electrical appliances, fashion jewellery, furniture, household goods and kitchenware, food and beverages, and health and beauty products.

The event also features stalls from more than 180 other exhibitors such as hospitals, educational institutions and travel agents.

Over the course of the exhibition, organisers have been putting on events for business people, investors and the general public.

These include the announcement of an agricultural development project in Laos under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn of Thailand, a presentation about travel in Thailand, and lectures on community development.

For the benefit of business partnerships and operators in Laos and Thailand, the organising committee has also set up the Lao-Thai Business Cooperation to the Asean Economic Community and a business matching service.

Visitors to the exhibition have also been entertained by performances from Lao and Thai singers and even a magician.

The exhibition is not just about selling products but also matching up businesses from both countries and developing partnerships that will lead to increased trade in the future.

Thai exhibits at the event feature Thai products and services that have been specifically selected for their quality and sales potential in Laos.

The opening ceremony was attended by Thai Deputy Minister of Commerce Alongkom Panlaboot, Lao Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Ms Khemani Pholsena, and representatives from Laos and Thailand.

The exhibition is organised by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand.

Laos and Thailand have a long trading history and cooperate in many projects together.
