Lao Airlines's new hangar under construction
The Lao Airlines has agreed to hire the China Yunnan Construction Engineering Group for US$ 16.7 million to build a hangar and maintenance and training centre.
Financed with loan from the Chinese government, the Lao Airlines Hangar and Maintenance and Training Centre are included in the development strategy of the Lao national carrier over the next ten years or till 2020, according to Director General of the Lao Airlines state enterprise Somphone Douangmala.
This project is very important and necessary, technologically and economically for the development in the airline sector. It is vital for the flagship carrier, said Mr. Somphone.
The future hangar of the Lao Airlines is being built on 14,548 sq m. The construction started in last November and is expected to be completed before the Lao New Year April 2012, said Mr. Somphone.
The new hangar is designed to accommodate two Boeing-737s or A320s aircraft.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the infrastructure development project of the Lao Airlines was held at the Wattay International Airport, Vientiane Capital, on 20 January.
Present at yesterday's event were Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, Chinese Ambassador to Laos Bu Jiangua, Director of the Lao Airlines State Enterprise, and Deputy Director of the China Yunnan Construction Engineering Group Chen Wei Qiang, and relevant officials of both sides.
