Shares decline on both exchanges
The VN-Index rose throughout most of today's session but backslid before closing at 459.26, a 0.6 per cent decline over yesterday's value.
On the HCM City Stock Exchange, market volume decreased by 18.4 per cent to 30.5 million shares worth VND780.1 billion (US$40 million).
Decliners largely outnumbered advancers by 162-48.
Leading shares tumbled, but Phu My Fertiliser (DPM), Masan Group (MSN) and property developer Vincom Co (VIC) advanced.
AgriBank Securities (AGR) rose to its ceiling price for the fourth consecutive day and closed at VND12,100 ($0.62).
Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) dropped to its floor price to VND60,000 ($3.08) today after reaching its ceiling price for three successive days.
Phu My Fertiliser (DPM) was the most active stock on the southern bourse on a volume of more than 1.5 million shares thanks to heavy purchases from foreigners. DPM rose 0.91 per cent to end at VND33,200 ($1.70).
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost another 0.74 per cent of its value to close at 121.71. In all, the bourse's volume increased slightly to more than 23.5 million shares worth VND564.6 billion ($29 million).
The number of decliners was more than four times higher than gainers.
Among the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, only PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS) and Sai Gon – Quy Nhon Mining (SQC) posted gains in value.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) continued to be the most heavily-traded share with more than two million shares changing hands. PVX declined by 1.32 per cent to VND22,400 ($1.15).
