State Bank's CAR changes buoy indexes
The State Bank of Viet Nam's announcement to modify Circular 13 secured confidence and pushed the VN-Index up 1.13 per cent when the bourse opened today.
The VN-Index stood at 463.4 points with 176 among 259 listed shares on the HCM City Stock Exchange prices rebounding.
Late Wednesday, the State Bank announced it would revise regulations concerning commercial banks' equity and capital adequacy ratio (CAR) from the controversial Circular 13. The modifications aim to comply with the Government's instructions to review the circular.
Banking stocks rallied, with two of the four listed banks advancing, including STB, up 0.1 per cent and EIB, up 0.2 per cent.
Blue chips contributed to the index's rally including DPM, up 0.1 per cent; FPT, up 0.5 per cent; OGC, up 0.1 per cent; and VNM, up 0.5 per cent.
In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index climbed to 134.67 points during the morning's mid-session.
The market's volume performed steady at 27.5 million shares, totalling a value of VND700.14 billion ($35.9 million). Advancers outnumbered decliners by 223 to 46.
Dai Viet Securities analysts said that Dow Jones' strong overnight performance boosted trading at the end of Wednesday session.
